Delay in game......

Well I guess some what of bad news yesterday, the position in Abbotsford didn’t quite happen as of yet. They need to ‘look into it more’. We’re thinking it’s delayed until probably January's decision making. The Director of Operations at Tradex is pushing to get the position in place and did have a verbal approval but as all political organizations go there’s and approval posses to go through. Seems that in this one there was a bit of a hang up. She’s going to press again and will let me know at the end of the day what’s going to happen next. In the mean time however she’s still going ahead with handing events over to me which means a full time job (part time/full time I guess. She also said she’d be handing the parking lot over to me, good news for Susy, finally a manager that understands. But I’ll start ignoring her soon enough, lol… I’m kidding. So I guess we’ll wait and see what happens next. As for moving we’re still a go for January 1st. Might have to commute for a month or two but oh well such is life, hopefully that will be short term.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2005 when...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the
first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly who would get this.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this
list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

Why the poppy?

Poppy Today at work I was approached by two tourists in our lobby. They asked me why everyone was wearing these flowers on our jackets. I know the poppy is typically a Canadian thing and is also used by the British as well, but I was kind of surprised they didn't know what they were for or seen them before. As I was about to tell them I noticed their countries flag on their stuff...Germany. How do you tell someone from Germany that these poppies are to remember our vets and they also signify the end of WW1? The first world war where everyone got together to fight your country. Oh not to mention the second one too. I did answer them of course. But it got me thinking. We honor those that fought for the freedom of all. At least that's the way we look at it. Britain and Canada both have Remembrance Day, the US has Veteran's Day. On November 19th is Volkstrauertag, the German National Day of Mourning. Its the day they honor those killed in WW1. A combined number of all countries involved in WW1 puts the numbers at 8 million dead, 19.5 million injured. Do you even want to know about WW2? An estimated 50 million people, soldiers and civilians alike killed in WW2! That's what I use to think about when I wore a poppy. That was until a few years ago. It was closing in on Remeberance Day and I was talking to a guy probably in his late 40s. I had made some casual remark about Remembrance Day, he told me what he did on Nov 11. He gets together with a few of his 'war buddies' and goes to the Veteran's Hospital. I was like, hold on, your a Vet? He was, and he told me how they go visit the guys in the hospital injured in war, the 20 year old kids he called them. 20 year old Vets! My perspective changed that day and I have a lot more respect for those who have died in wars. The new and the old. Today I thought again. Maybe I should be remembering those on the other side. The Germans, the Japanese, the Vietnamese.... I think I could go on. What about wars we don't know about? What about the innocent? Everyone knows about the holocaust, but did you know that in China and the former USSR 97 million people were killed under communist rule? So why do we as Canadians wear a poppy? Or better yet, why do you?

IN FLANDERS FIELDS

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Wow

Ok where did October go? I'm looking and my last post was like a month ago. I don't remember what happened. Was I in a comma for the last month? Guess we've been busy or something. Not much has changed in that time though. Should know in the next month or so if I got a new job in Abby which means a move. I'm actually really excited about that. I hope it happens. I need a change of atmosphere as my current full time job is driving me bonkers. I love the job, when I get to do it, most of the time though its a whole big mess of political bulls**t. I don't have time for that stuff. I also don't like the idea of working long term for a company whose "unwritten" ideals go against mine. I've been looking for work since the beginning of the year basically. Ok I lie, I haven't looked at all. I've actually been waiting to see if one will fall into my lap and so far so good on that one. Like I said I'll find out with in the month. It will probably mean a move over the holidays. Might work out in my favor as there's a few house hold items I parted with on the last move with the idea of buying new stuff when I move again. Well seeing as there should be boxing day sales and the like I might be in for some luck. I'm actually starting now the daunting task of looking for an apartment in Abby. I know of one I really like that I looked at before but I thought I should shop around again just to make sure it's the right one. So we'll see how much life changes for me in the next little while. On a positive note though Sue and I are doing great. She's an amazing girl and I love every moment with her. Which is odd because normally people annoy me. lol Ok kinda joking on that one. But our relationship is amazing and I couldn't be happier. Ok really I just added that last part in case anyone was just sitting there wondering 'oh I wonder how Neil and Susy are doing?' Well now you know, things are great. Well I guess I should get to work. I've been here since 4:00 AM and now its 7:00 AM, what's the relevance to that? Not much except I haven't even put my tie on yet. That's just how excited I am to be here.
